“Gilbert has care for his brother Arnie and his obese mother, which gets in the way when love walks into his life”.

The life of a young man in a dead-end small town, revolving around his job at a small grocery store, fooling around mechanically with a married woman, and taking care of his family, which includes a retarded younger brother (outstanding performance by Leonardo DiCaprio) and his obscenely obese mother, and how his monotony is affected by the arrival of a girl. No big gestures, no big themes, no revelations, just a simple everyday drama, played naturally, and to great effect, by its director. Very touching film.
